Mountain Cove Vineyard is in the center of rural Nelson County, rich in orchards, organic farms, and woodlands. When you visit our winery, please plan on lingering in the area. Our Farm is next to the Fortunes Cove Preserve, and we delight in pointing out hiking and mountain biking routes. We offer wine tastings and winemaker's tours of our winery detailing each step of the wine making process. Surrounded by hills, the welcoming lawn invites you to picnic and enjoy our farm. The fully modern winery is housed in a fieldstone building. A rustic salesroom offers a wide variety of wines and gift items. Al or Emily will try to welcome you when you visit. Al, is often in the fields or spending time on the road building a Virginia response to climate change, but will most often be your host. Founded in 1973 by Al and Emily Weed, Mountain Cove is now Virginia's oldest winery. We replanted our original vineyard in 1997 using the knowledge we gained from almost a quarter century of winegrowing in Central Virginia Read more »

  • Hello All,We're traveling from Portland to Napa along the Oregon Coast. Would love your recommendations for:1.  An exceptional vineyard tasting room near McMinnville.2. An association or coop, or other tasting facility that represents numerous Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs, again near McMinnville. Thanks very much, Carbonunit1 Read More

  • We're heading back to (my favorite wine region) Russian River the first weekend in October and are looking for advice on what to do and what to expect.  We've been to RRV several times but only during the off season.  Is there anything special we should do at this time of year, and conversely, is there anything we should avoid? • So I am sneaking away to Sonoma for a few days.  I have spent tons of time up in RRV and Sebastopol, and I think I want to revisit the lower valley this time- Kenwood, Glen Ellen...  I would love recommendations for wineries, hotels, motels, vac. rentals, and restaurants.  Sonoma proper would be ok to stay, as is close to those areas.  Plan on h... • Help!Ok, ok...there's no crisis here in Dallas. However, I do have quandary. I just haven't developed an affinity for varietal New World pinot noir and I'm wondering what I'm missing. I'm looking for suggestions from you Snoothers.Keep in mind that I live in the Great (or Not So Great) State of Texas, where it's considerably more difficult to ac... Read More

  • I generally avoid wine clubs of any sort, even at my favorite wineries--I'm too promiscuous to sign up to drink 12 or 24 botles of someone's wine in a year--but I am a member of Mauritson's Rockpile list, because there's no longer any way to get the Cemetery Zinfandel and good luck getting any of the others, either.  Since I have in-laws up that... • Hello!I am planning a weekend trip to Paso Robles, and am looking for some advice on wineries to visit whilst I am there. As a bit of background, my girlfriend and I are big red lovers. Cab Sauv, Shiraz, Syrah, Zin, and Petite Syrah find their way onto the dinner table most of the time. We're not really into what I will term as 'introductory'... Read More
