I became even more excited about this winery when I found out that many of their 2008 releases have been SIP™ (Sustainability in Practice) Certified. In order to receive this certification the growers must go through a rigorous process to prove their continuing commitment to environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic vitality. The SIP™ program takes into consideration energy conservation, erosion control, pest management, human resource practices, and more. Consumers should look for the SIP™ certified seal on bottles; this seal signals that the wine you are drinking contains 85% or more certified fruit.   Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Wolff Vineyard 2007

  This chardonnay is a tasty, floral and peach/nectarine/melon wine that oddly enough had a bit of Riesling "zing" to it. Tasty, but lacking any toasty oak or buttery qualities for those that seek such in a chardonnay. -Tasted 8/15/09 Marche` Bacchus

  Herbal, cut grass nose. Good, clean cherry flavors, succulent juicy and ripe. Basil and herbs, maybe even a bit of rosemary.

Read moreTaylors refresher - if seared ahi tuna burger with wasabi slaw sounds like something you like, you should go, also best garlic fries in the world, and their other burgers are also top notch. note: try to go at 11:30am if you're there on a weekend because the line goes crazy at lunchtime till 2 or 3pm Since the big boys (far niente, etc) have already been suggested, here are some "smaller" family owned wineries I've frequented and loved. Frog's Leap winery - Awesome not overoaked chardonnay, "Rutherford" blend is one of my favorites, and the people there are great. They also hve a frogenbeerenauslese that's quite fun, whimsical play on german TBA. Groth Family - great great cabs Miner Family - good assortment, I'm a fan of their rosado Reynolds Family James Cole - 750 case annual yield microscopic winery but I really like their wines, and the people there like to listen to rock music in the tasting room. The rolling stones love their wine, and so do I. Not sure if they still pour it but James' Brother makes a pinot noir icewine from okanagan. Delicious. Pina - they will give u 2 cabs for the taste, I personally like their Howell Mountin cab. Vincent Arroyo - Great reds, if you're into petite sirah, they make a good one Grgich Hills - if you're there on a weekday try to call in advance to see if Mike Grgich is going to be there and sign your bottle! (he made the legendary 1973 Chat Montelena Chard, but I think bo barrett and him stil hvent spoken in 30 years though haha) Stag's Leap Wine Cellars - just overall really well made wines, "Fay" and "Artemis" are staples in my cellar Casa Nuestra - another small winery, they have 2 giant namibian goats outside their tasting room. good fun Duckhorn - just because Dutch Henry - great reds Chateau Montelena - just because Quintessa - just because Mumm - if you like bubbly Second the motion on the other recomms! FN, Phelps, Lark, etc Also, when the wineries are closed at 5pm, I usually head over to the bounty hunter in downtown napa. One of the few places that are open till late, serve some good flights of wine, and they have amazing spicerubbed beercan chicken which I order every single time. for SCM - Ridge is awesome but I went there on a field trip so we got to see the cellars and go barrell tasting of the montebello, I'm sure the tasting room is fun as well! Cooper Garrod was great, we got to prune some vines when we visited haha. Mount Eden has great wines, And if you could somehow miraculously get an appointment, (as it is closed to all visitors) Katheryn Kennedy wines are really good. Enjoy! Hope this helps    (hide)
