Monte Antico means ancient mountain in Italian. In the world of fine wines, a unique combination of quality, reliability and value since 1977, this label belongs to Neil & Maria Empson, who launched the Super Tuscan five years after founding the Neil Empson Selections. It was their special affinity to the heartland of Italy that led them to make their very own mark on Tuscan soil: with the Maestro of Italian winemakers, Franco Bernabei. They have styled the Tuscan grape per eccellenza and expressed its ultimate potential, complimenting it with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The best selections are cherry picked according to harvest conditions in the individual terroirs and microclimates. The blend for Monte Antico is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. The best selections are blended and aged 1 year in oak (80% in Slovenian barrels, 20% in barrique) with at least 6 months bottle age. This wine is consistently one of Italy’s better values.

  • Monte Antico Rosso 2006

    Snoothrank:

This wine is a nice, very clear cranberry red - far more translucent than I am accustomed to drinking. The nose is ample and gives up bits of pine, clove, pepper and pungent herbs. In the mouth, though scant in body, this wine's bright acidity is a little overpowering. It really just sucks the moisture right out of your cheeks. Perhaps resultantl... Read More

  • Monte Antico Rosso 2006

    Snoothrank:

A little spice in the pleasant aroma. Some juicy sweetness up front, with a dash of prune and bruised grapes. The finish is moderately tart with some warmth. Like Coastalcorks said, the tannins are pretty light and it is nice with pasta - that is how I tried it too. Read More

  • Hi my name is Tom. I have owned a small tavern in Northern WI for a couple years now. Believe it or not there is not a bottle of wine with a cork in it within 40 miles. I'm looking for suggestions for wines to serve that are priced between 8-15 dollars. I am currently not a big wine drinker and any help would be welcome.ThanksTom   Read More
