Mondavi on Snooth

  • dvogler - I completely agree with Dmucker on the Beringer and Mondavi. Those should be in prime shape right now at 20 years in. And from an excellent vintage before Napa went over the edge. I'd be interested in the Mondavi - they went through some rough times. Very uneven winemaking, serious disagreements within the family, just about every soap... Read More

  • "From what I've read, the Beringer is still great and the RM is a ... ... paid for writing about wine. Mondavi Reserves can last a long time, in many-to-most cases benefitting from that laydown. My personal experience is they do better than Beringer which is usually a bigger, looser wine (but generally a more popular style). That being said, h... Read More

  • Yes but that's partly because it's what we've been given. With ... ... it isn't. The idea of Mondavi and Rothchild was to create a brand with Opus One and many of the big CA wines are about brands - Phelps Insignia, Gemstone Facets, etc. It's not really such a bad idea - ultimately the name on the bottle is a brand anyway, so for the 99 percen... • Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2003

    Snoothrank:

Big sweet oak nose, maybe, some clove. Very watery at the front of the tongue. It takes a second to detect standard cabernet sauvignon cassis. Then there is a sourness around the edges of the tongue. Finally, unreined tannins step in. This is not a sipping wine. However, with some solid food, the sourness and the tannins are both calmed dow... Read More

  • Isabel Mondavi Deep Rose Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013

  • I love the RM Cabs for everyday drinkers. All of them are full without being too big for my non-cab friends. All vintages go great with filet or burgers and the price point is usually sub $20. The special reserve cab is my fav.
