Mission Estate is the birthplace of New Zealand wine, when our founders built the first winery in Hawke's Bay in 1851. We are very proud to be New Zealand's oldest winemaker. In one of the most sustainable wineries in the country we create our current collection of Mission Estate, Vineyard Selection, Reserve and Jewelstone award-winning wines. With advanced viticultural practices and a progressive winemaking team, we have a long-standing reputation for quality and over-delivering at every price point. Housed in an elegantly restored historic seminary building with sweeping views of Napier, Mission Estate offers visitors a year round complete wine experience. A visit to the cellar door provides an opportunity to try the extensive range of wines and for those interested in history, the twice daily historic walk is a must. Lunch or dinner can be enjoyed seven days in the renowned Mission restaurant, and the adjoining Chapel provides the ideal venue for a picturesque wedding reception or conference Read more »

  • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... • It being earth day tomorrow I thought this would be a fine time to explore attitude towards the whole organic/natural/biodynamic movement. I reached out to some wine professionals to get their opinions about these wines, but before I turn the stage over to them I’d like to explore the situation briefly. Before we consider the value of these wines... • In getting together with some LA and OC wine folks yesterday, I brought along this 1961 Oddero Barolo to the party that also featured a '66 Lafite, and a '66 Haut Brion, among others. I had sourced this Barolo just last week as something to throw at the pair of old 1st growth wolves, and spice things up. Sitting here this morning, I can easily c... Read More

  • There's an argument to be made for Riesling, and it's made on a regular basis. It goes something like this: Riesling is great, it's flexible and it's food friendly, with wines ranging from dry to syrupy sweet, so there's something for everyone to like. This has been the argument of the day for years now. Trouble is Riesling still finds resistanc... Read More

  • Being a cab lover I am hesitant to stray from what I like. On a recent occasion I had the opportunity to try a Zinfandel and to my amazement, it had some of the same attributes of the cabernets I love so well. I perused Snooth and stopped on a particular zin from Bogle vineyards. Gregory Dal Piaz gave it a nice rating and being a member of Snoot... Read More
