Some sons learn how to fish from their fathers. Others learn how to play baseball. Manny Miranda learned how to make wine. As far back as he can remember, when summer turned to fall, he and his father and grandfather would be busy for days in the courtyard of the family house, crushing grapes, squeezing them in a hand press and fermenting the grapes into wine. Over the years, Manny learned from his father and grandfather, in the same way they had learned from their fathers and grandfathers before them. He learned how to blend wine, to age it, perfect it, and, of course enjoy it. Since he was a small boy growing up in Portugal, Manny dreamed of planting his own vineyard and building his own winery. It took more than 50 years, but he and Maria finally did it. Recently they both retired, Manny from his own construction company, Maria as a school principal. And now they’re doing the opposite of what many retired couples would do. They’re starting all over again. They’ve been busy perfecting those old world traditions Manny had passed down to him and they’ve created some very special wines they hope you enjoy as much as they do. Cheers! Or as they say in Portuguese – Saude! (From Miranda Vineyard website: Read more »

  • Anyone know any wineries in Connecticut that are 'can't miss' stops? There's a list here, but I was wondering if there was anything unique and worth having a look at- particularly around Mystic & Foxwoods and/or near Lake Compounce.  (Boulderdash!) Tanks  Read More

  • Miranda Vineyard Merlot 2007

    Snoothrank:

While recently visiting this Goshen, CT Vineyard, I came across their wonderful Merlot! This has been produced from grapes sourced from Sonoma, but the winemaker did a lovely job of instilling his own personality into the wine. Wonderful silky texture, dry, but great aroma of vanilla, violet and dark current fruit. Raisins and lovely french oak ... Read More

  • Miranda Vineyard Merlot 2007

    Snoothrank:

For Connecticut this is not a bad Merlot, but it doesnt have the mellowness of the coastal or Long Island Merlots. I detected hints of licorice which were quite interesting. Read More

  • Miranda Vineyard Woodridge Red NV

    Snoothrank:

This is a nice red table wine; medium-bodied and able to stand up to heavier pasta and light meat dishes. Fruity, with notes of cherry and blackberry in both the nose and in the mouth. This and the Woodridge White were my two favorites at Miranda. And like the Woodridge White, the Woodridge Red is also a 2008 Big E Northeast Gold Medal Award Wi... Read More

  • Miranda Vineyard White Blend Woodridge White NV

    Snoothrank:

This is a blend of Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc that is crisp and quite refreshing. It would be a good sipping wine on a summer evening, and would also be nice paired with chicken, fish or a light pasta. The Woodridge White is a 2008 Big E Northeast Gold Medal Award Winner. Read More
