The Winery was founded in 1892 when the French brothers David and Salvador, planted the first vines. They were attracted by the benign climate, the beauty of the landscape and Cafayate Valley unique Terroir, good for quality grapes production. The winery took it's name from the legend of El Esteco City. According to this tale, Esteco was an opulent city in the north of Argentina. Its buildings, covered with silver shone and its people dressed in gold. In 1692 an earthquake buried the city and his its treasures. In the late 1970's the company bought the El Esteco estate and recovered the hidden treasure. We discovered the riches came from the soil. In honour to the legend, El Esteco produces the best grapes used for Michel Torino top export wines.

  • Michel Torino Shiraz Don David Reserve 2011

    Snoothrank:

Fairly fragrant, with lots of blackberry, raspberry and an undertone of something herbaceous. On the palate this one is JUICY, with lots of blackberry, cassis and jam. Also some clove and just a hint of something leathery. Lots of bright acidity. Some lovely subtle notes of vanilla and oak on the finish. Moderate length. Good value here, for sure. Read More

  • Michel Torino Cuma Malbec Cafayate Valley 2011

    Snoothrank:

Herbs, particularly rosemary, and black plummy fruit greet the nose followed by decidedly balsamic and bitter aromas of quinine and Chinato. Light, fresh, and energetic in the mouth, theres a nice blend of power and clarity here and unlike much Malbec with is nicely dry. At its core there is that faint bitterness and touch of black spice that Ma... Read More

  • Michel Torino Torrontes Cuma Organic 2012

    Snoothrank:

This organic Torrontés is more intriguing than most of the examples one finds; the nose is highly aromatic and indeed exotic: the scent of rosewater and even jasmine is evident. On the palate, there is spicy star anise and ginger along with apricot. More serious than most examples, this wine should interest those with a more experimental bent.... Read More

  • Michel Torino Malbec Don David Reserve 2007

    Snoothrank:

A crummy year in Mendoza was not so bad in Salta, at least not in these mile-high vineyards. The sweet mix of pancake syrup and raspberry jam in the bouquet comes without too much depth but a very agreeable blend of prune, green plum and mixed berries, then a clean finish. • Michel Torino Altimus 2010

    Snoothrank:

The nose showed intense dark fruits, spiced cookie and rosemary with an undercurrent of dusty stone and minerals. On the palate this was rich yet detailed and structured with flavors of ripe, dark fruits followed by hints of herbs and cranberry carrying through the cheek-puckering finish. The balance of ripe fruit and structure here is stunning ... Read More
