  • I ran up to Napa for a few days to get away and taste some wines from places I'd never been (most of them).  I went during BottleRock Napa, but alas, didn't partake in an y of those festivities.  Some great finds, so I have listed/linked any of the wines I rated over 90 points, should anyone have interest, or their own thoughts on the wines. Wit... • Michael David Petite Petit 2010

    Snoothrank:

Wonderful blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, this powerful wine has a strong nose and would benefit from decanting and sitting a while before being consumed. On the nose is an oaky vanilla with notes of blueberry, plum, black and dark fruit. In the mouth it is meaty and peppery with hints leather, tar, and tobacco. Aggressive, chewy tannins. Read More

  • Michael David Petite Petit 2010

    Snoothrank:

Powerful and stings the nostrils. Very big and purple and the nose screams of oaky vanilla. Huge oak on this wine! Aromas of blueberry, plum, black and purple fruits. Meaty and roasty with hints of game, tar, maduro tobacco. Big on the palate as well, bold and aggressive. Very dry and woody tannins. Lots of vanilla, blue, black and purple... Read More

  • Like Zinfandel, Petite Sirah is primarily a California wine: the Golden ... is ... is the reserve-level wine of Michael David Winery, one of Lodi’s largest. This concentrated and mouth-filling wine marries Petite Sirah with a portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. There is plenty of rich black fruit and dark spice on both nose and palate, with earthy ... • Michael David Petite Petit 2010

    Snoothrank:

This wine is a bit darker in color, with a bit of opacity at the center, easing toward some ruby at the edges. The nose on this one is quite a bit different, with some distinct woodsy notes reflecting the Petite Sirah (which also lends structure and the fantastic deep purple color), some wonderful fresh herb notes accented by anise and black ch... • Michael David Petite Petit 2010

    Snoothrank:

Peppery, oaky, minty nose. Satiny as it rolls over the tongue. Fruit flavors seem to tend towards plum more than any berries. Tannin starts at the tip of the tongue and follows the wine back as it passes the edges. Reasonable acid, although I might wish for a tad more. I'm noshing on some provolone right now, and it's pretty good. US$15.59... Read More

  • 7 Deadly Zins Zinfandel Lodi 2005

    Snoothrank:

Strong nose with hints of berry and chocolate. Tastes of berry and plum. Spicy finish, nice tannins and smooth in the mouth. Good with spicy or saucy dishes. Also great with chocolate. Good but have had better. Read More

  • In 2004, the movie Sideways put a major dent in California Merlot sales when Miles uttered the immortal words “I am not drinking fucking Merlot!” At that point there were a lot of ripe, insipid Merlots on the market—many grown in areas that were too hot for the grape to ripen slowly, gaining full physiological maturity—so Miles’ sentiments reson... • Petite Petit Petite Sirah 2009

    Snoothrank:

Opaque ruby-purple hue, aromas of dried black fruits and artichoke; rustic flavor notes of cough syrup black fruit, graphite and earth-veggie, underscored by fine tannins to a modest finish across the lean palate. Read More
