Responsible for overseeing Gruppo Mezzacorona, the Mezzacorona Societa Cooperativa Agricola was founded in 1904 as one of the first growers associations in Italy.  Currently occupying just under 6,500 acres at the foot of the Italian Dolomites, Gruppo Mezzacorona which produces all Mezzacorona products, combines both the traditional pergola system of growing with the more modern espalier system for enological operations.  While staying true to the natural balance of the grapes, Mezzacorona is equipped with the most modern enological equipment allowing them to produce upwards of 8 million gallons of wine annually.

Wine production focuses on quality white production with special attention paid to their Pinot Grigios and Chardonnays, both grapes coming from the Valle dell’ Adige section of the vineyards.  Red production is centered on the Teroldego, followed closely by their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, harvesting the grapes from the Piana Rotaliana and Lake Garda regions, respectively Read more »

  • Castel Firmian Teroldego Rotaliano 2011

Theres a hint of spice here on the nose under bright raspberry fruit. Shows a hint of toasty sweetness and caramel fragrance. This smells very modern but very good, as well. Very smooth and polished on entry and undeniably modern, fairly dripping with blueberry and black raspberry fruit in the mouth. Built on a base of dry tannin, but this shows... Read More

  • Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio Trentino 2005

The nose showed pear, white flowers, light citrus and wheat. On the palate, I found apple and citrus with crisp acidity and an attractive, oily weight. The finish was long with crisp apple. This is an excellent QPR (Quality Price Ratio) at a price that you can drink or toss it into the nights supper. Well done! Read More

  • Mezzacorona Moscato Hrz 2010

Perhaps I bought a bottle that had been exposed to heat; mine was not at all sweet, tasted more like a chardonnay than moscato, had no redeeming qualities, I actually poured the rest down the drain. Life's too short to drink bad wine, there's a reason this was so inexpensive. Read More

  • Mezzacorona Moscato Hrz 2010

Mezza is right, more like meh. Not as good as other Muscats. This one is 11.5% alcohol; rather dry with a taste of unripe peaches. I tried mixing it with 7up, but I think I'll make seafood crepes with this instead. Read More

  • Mezzacorona Chardonnay Vigneti Delle Dolomiti IGT 2010

Very crisp nose. Rather austere. Lightly floral. It's a crisp, refreshing style with very little to no oak. Good mineral and acid. Not very complex or layered, but it lingers nicely. Read More

  • Pinot Grigio -Kellerei Mezzacorona 2010

Crisp, fresh nose of starchy fruits, with apple, pear and slight lychee. Some mineral. Nice acid on the palate. Bright citrus flavors and a nice minerality with flavors of lemon zest, hints of flowers like honeysuckle. Read More
