Merry Edwards Winery on Snooth

  • CY, welcome to Snooth! We are also on the East Coast but have made quite a few trips to CA wine country over the years with an emphasis on the Northern Sonoma and especially the Russian River area so I'll let the others talk to Napa (although I will 2nd the advice to search out Robin Akhurst). Here are a few of my favorites:Scherrer (need to mak... • I'm not sure you need any help, .You're off to a great start.I am a Zinfandel bigot.  So, I would certainly endorse Mauritson and Ridge in the Healdsburg neighborhood.  (People on this board are pretty tired of me rhapsodizing about the Ridge Lytton Springs field blend.)  Both those wineries, of course, have excellent examples made from other gr... • Hi everyone.  This is my first post on the boards.  My wife and I are doing a long weekend in Healdsburg (Jan 15-17) and Yountville (Jan 17-19) over MLK weekend and were looking for some recommendations on wineries to visit.  We tend to like more full bodied red wines, but are open to other wines as well. We are from New York and want to focus o... Read More

  • It's interesting that a few new topics have popped up recently (Experiencing Cabernet Franc for one) and that my wife Sandra just today handed me an article by Dave McIntyre she cut out of a Washington Post newspaper dated 25 March 2015.  I'm starting this new topic based on this article "The wine cost four digits.  And the taste?" regarding the... • Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Light gold in color, lemon cream and honeysuckle on the nose. Lemon chiffon, a hint of dried pineapple, green apple and under ripe peach. This has a somewhat creamy texture but crisp acidity and a very pleasant, clean, medium length finish. Extremely enjoyable! Read More

  • v v,  yes, I agree, that Merry Edwards is a bit spendy.  I looked it up in my archives, and I paid $54 for that Georgeanne PN at the winery in 2012.  Buying at the winery is never the cheapest.  However, I do think this was as good a PN as I have ever tasted.  So, I'm OK with it.  Keep in mind, now, I am not a PN fan.  So, what most people think... • Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Georganne 2009

    Snoothrank:

Pretty, dark red color. Some fruit on the nose but more wood or leather. Lightest hint of strawberry on introduction to the tongue/palate. This is a pretty big wine. However, it is wonderfully balanced. Fruit, tannin and acid are all there, but nothing dominates. They all support each other. Read More

  • Hi guys, it's me again... crazy Brazilian-New Yorker chick asking for advice on wine travel...So I will have 4 full days in the area (May 14-17) and wanted to pick your brains for anything amazing and cost-beneficial you can come up with (except for hotels, I could care less about where I stay, all money goes to wine!).For timing reasons, my mai... • Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

Big, fruitysweet applenose. Plenty of that same fruitiness on the tongue, maybe with some apricot flavorits almost, but not quite sweet. Then, I get a bit of minerality. The wine seems to be a bit viscous. At the back of the palate there seems to be some effervescence. All the fruitiness in this wine makes me think that it would pair well w... Read More

  • Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2009

    Snoothrank:

Brooding, earthy nose with a hint of phenols. Like so many California PNs, the first taste is cherry, but, then, a good thingas the wine moves over the palate, I get more of a blackberry flavor and acid and tannin structure add significant complexity. Acid/tannin suggests to me that there is some significant aging potential, here. Read More
