Gnarled, twisted old Zinfandel vines were the inspiration behind the Medusa wines logo, named for the snake-haired figure of Greek mythology. Winemaker, Rob Mondavi Jr., and his partners, wife Lydia Mondavi, Patti McKiernan and Geoff Whitman, are committed to crafting single-vineyard, old-vine Zinfandel from some of California’s best appellations. The current releases hail from four different prime growing regions: Pig Pen Vineyard from the Deaver Ranch in Amador County; Lover's Lane Vineyard in Mendocino; Hoodoo Creek Vineyard in Lake County; and the Creekside Block of Bar 49 Vineyard in Chiles Valley in northeast Napa Valley.     Dark plummy nise of heavy baking sice and black cherry. Some underbrush. Kirsch, cherry, plum and big baking spice lead by cinnamon on the palate.
