  • It's interesting that a few new topics have popped up recently (Experiencing Cabernet Franc for one) and that my wife Sandra just today handed me an article by Dave McIntyre she cut out of a Washington Post newspaper dated 25 March 2015.  I'm starting this new topic based on this article "The wine cost four digits.  And the taste?" regarding the... • 2013 brought new mega wine/beer/cigar stores to the Portland, Or./Vancouver Wa. area. We went from going from little wine shops with limited selections to 2 stores with over 2500 different wines each. This is nice because you can plan ahead, check your wine rack or cellar and go on line to pick your selections. Once you've determined what you wan... Read More

  • In my daily travels I pass through the Napa Valley every Monday. A few weeks ago I asked Mike Smith a question about yeast for Sauv Blanc and he invited me to stop by and check out some of his new vintage before it went into bottle shock. First pass: Inviting straight from the glass. Pure fruit, a bit stressed. Short mid-palate. Good texture on the finish. Chewy. Second pass: Opening in the mid-palate and balancing out. Read More

Barrel sample at NYC open house 4/14/2008- The color is super garnet. The palate explodes with red fruits of plum, cherries and tar. There is some nice cassis notes present. This is a very elegant & classy wine. A real show-stopper. Pure fruited and extremely clean. Very different from the '04 and the '05. This will set a new high for this rock ... Read More

  • Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Materium 2005

(double decanted 1.5 hours) The family resemblance is uncanny, just the clothing is different. This had the dark brooding color with the slightly more subdued, but ever present wall of fruit. The red and black fruits created such a fruit medley of love. Slightly bigger in scale than the 04, this had more oak, and more tannic structure, but hey, ... Read More
