The story of the Matetic Winery begins in 1999 when the Matetic family decided to diversify their business ventures and enter the world of wine, confident in the virtues of the climate and soils in the Rosario Valley. With a firm conviction in the vital importance of maintaining a strong professional team to guide every step of the project, the family incorporated Alan York (Biodinamic Consultant), Ken Bernards (Consulting Winemaker), and Ann Kraemer (Viticultural Consultant) into the project in 2000 to ensure that Matetic wines achieve the highest quality. – Description from Kursulla

This wine was a ridiculous bargain. It was originally a $15-20 wine several years ago, and one of my local shops somehow got a case of it that they were selling for $5 a bottle. I might have been concerned that it was over the hill, but the color was great, and it had a fair degree of sediment indicating a wine made with minimal intervention. ... Read More

  • Matetic Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Corralillo 2011

Fresh on the nose with a green pea, sweet vegetal note, framed with jalapeño. Lime, kiwi and gooseberry come together on the sweet and vibrant palate that features huge acids, lending nice wash on the finish. This does still show an edge of sweetness on the finish. 85pts Read More

  • Matetic Eq Sauvignon Blanc Coastal Casablanca 2011

Sweet and soft on the nose with a gentle mineral note lending nice, gentle complexity and making this a bit smoky. Fresh and clear on entry with a sweet vegetal aspect to the asparagus and canned peas. Just a touch of canned corn reduction. Salty finish gains a nice little melon note, sweet lime and a peachy background. 88pts Read More

  • Matetic Chardonnay San Antonio Valley Eq 2010

A bit tight on the nose, fine nose, Burgundian nose, soil, dusty dirt, mineral, cut apple, very focused on the nose, tightly wound, very salty, very mineral driven, a bit creamy on the midpalate, very gentle on the palate, real clarity with some fine depth, clear tense fruit all the way through the finish. This is tight yet delicious today with ... Read More

  • Matetic Vineyard Corralillo Merlot-Malbec 2006

Deep, clear ruby coloured, with a forward, fruity nose of strawberry and vanilla. Very soft tannins in the mouth with a powerful alcoholic burn at the back of the throat (14.5%). A bit of leather and a hint of gritty, grenache-like dirt prevent this from being completely uncomplicated, but it is pretty much a big, jammy, slightly old-fashioned N... Read More
