Established in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino, the winery has been dedicated to the production of great wines from the Langhe area for four generations and currently three generations are involved in the day to day winemaking activities. Today Giuseppe Massolino, who was one of the founders of the Consorzio Barolo e Barbaresco, oversees his sons Giovanni and Renato, who split responsibilities for the vineyards and the cellar management, while Giovanni's son, Franco, is the winemaker. Over the years, the name Massolino has become synonymous with robust, concentrated and well structured Barolo. – Description from jeffmeisel

Just a selection of less ripe, less powerful grapes, a little Barolo one to one and a half years in botte, very Barolo like elevage Lovely fruity on the nose with aromas of wild raspberry in alcohol that are light and fragrant, followed by a bit of a jammy wild berry note. • Massolino Barbera d'Alba 2012

    Snoothrank:

Aged in concrete and in SSFinely focused on the nose with floral laced high toned, black fruit. In the mouth one finds a clean and fresh feel that shows off the classic weight of Barbera. Theres just a hint of flesh, soft tannins, good obvious but not high acid all supporting lovely pure of fruit on the palate. Finishing firmly this unfolds in ... Read More

  • So what’s not to like? 2010 Barolo is in the hype machine right now and ... and a richer texture. 93pts Massolino Another producer who flirted with a more modern style, if you can call 16 years of experimentation flirting. • Barolo Parussi Massolino 2010

    Snoothrank:

The top of the Cru in Castiglione, which one would expect to give a more supple wine, but it doesnt! Very floral on the nose and at the same time absolutely packed with raspberry, black raspberry fruit and black tea notes. Not as complex on the nose as the wines from Serralunga and more obviously fruity. Broad and supple in the mouth, there is a... Read More

  • Massolino Barolo Parafada 2010

    Snoothrank:

Very compact, calcareous soil, 70 year old vines, Smoky and briary on the nose which is rich with aromas of black fruit, and jumps around in the glass revealing sweet dried strawberry and rhubarb aromas, hints of incense, pipe tobacco, and stemmy herb notes. Deep, transparent and elegant on the palate this is holding back a lot in reserve with... Read More
