Way back in 780 CE, Charlemagne’s advisor, Saint Benedict of Aniane, founded the first vineyard in the Gassac valley. Indeed, there are good reasons to believe that he introduced Charlemagne to some of the valley’s early wines. Thus, in common with most truly great wines, the Daumas Gassac Grands Crus were born under the aegis of a prestigious Abbey. – Description from JelaDragoljevic

  • Jimmy - As Emark says, the wine is from the Languedoc-Rousillon region, but ... Hérault is probably Mas de Daumas Gassac, which I would think is absolutely nothing like the wine you want. That one is a fairly unusual blend of different varieties ( “varietal” is an adjective, not a noun).Generally the wines from the Languedoc are based on Carig... Read More

  • 15 years ago, before I retired, I had a couple of bottles of Chevalier de Bayard. It was the best tasting wine I'd ever had. But now that I'm on a fixed income, I can no longer spend $25 on a bottle of wine.Does anybody have any ideas of what wines are close to it but less expensive?Thank you  Read More

  • Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge Vdp de Lherault 2007

    Snoothrank:

An amazing good value for a super Cabernet Sauvignon blend (with many other grape varieties such as pinot Noir, Dolcetto, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Nebiolo...)Definitely a bottle worth of aging although the last one I had a couple of weeks ago was truly magnificent after 2 hours decanting . • So what does a wine and food writer do in his free time, you ask? • Mas de Daumas Gassac Red Bordeaux Blend Vin de Pays de l'Hérault 2006

    Snoothrank:

"The inky violet hue and clear rim you'd expect from a young Claret with those familiar pencil lead and vegetal notes on the nose, only just permitting a suggestion of something of lesser breeding to follow through: leather and damp vegetation.A little mean on the palate, the dark fruits and cassis are modestly enthusiastic, framed by cigar box ... • Mas de Daumas Gassac Languedoc 1990

    Snoothrank:

Medium ruby in color, with a hint of blood red at the rim of the glass, this wine has a complicated nose of leather, cherries, sandalwood, loam, and just the barest floral notes hanging above it all. In the mouth it is beautifully balanced and silky on the tongue with primary flavors of cherries, damp earth, and crushed stones, and secondary fla... Read More
