Our story begins a few generations ago in the Piedmonte region of northwestern Italy. Clara Accornero grew up tending the family’s grapes on the steep hillsides of Santo Stefano in the 1930’s. In 1939 Clara immigrated to America with her sister Pierna, leaving one other sister and two brothers behind in Italy. Her brothers, Romauldo and Domenico Accornero continued in the wine business as distributors. Their cousins continue to grow grapes in Italy today. During the 1940’s Clara’s Uncle Guilio Accornero operated the Sonoma Hills Wine Company, which was located at 114 Embarcadero in San Francisco. In 1940 Clara married Anthony Martorana whose family was from Palermo, Sicily. Today, Clara and Anthony’s grandsons, Gio and Tony Martorana, continue the story. The Martorana Family Vineyards has been growing grapes in the Dry Creek Valley for over 25 years and has produced some of the finest grapes for several well known wineries in the area.
