“Innovation, stubbornness and a little bit of madness” - So self describes himself Michael Martin, the young wine making dynamo of Weingut Martinshof. The trend to buck conservative thought was started even by his great grandfather, who insisted on growing Burgundian varietals, many years before they were popular in Austria. After his death however, his cherished Pinot Blanc was pulled up in favor of higher yielding varieties. The Martin family has owned and operated the heuriger "Zum Martin Sepp" ( for generations, and it still remains one of the most prominent and popular of Vienna’s Grinzing district. As Michael took over the winemaking in the late 80’s, it was his desire to bring the Martinshof brand back from quantity to quality.
