Martinborough Vineyard has won the Pinot Noir trophy at the 2009 Tri Nations Wine Challenge for its 2007 Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir. The event, held in Sydney, is an exclusive competition for a hand selected range of the very best wines from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Internationally acclaimed wine writers and judges Bob Campbell MW of New Zealand, Huon Hooke of Australia and Michael Fridjhon of South Africa selected the best wines of each variety from their own country. The judging is then done blind by the three selectors along with Chairman of judges Robert Joseph, to rate the wines in their order of preference. – Description from Kursulla

  • I just scored a bottle of 1990 Martinborough Vineyard Pinot from my local and am curious as to what to pair with it. Have a feeling that it might be a little past it but it's a great learning opportunity and might even still be good. I had this delicious pinot noir at Alioto's Italian Restaurant in San Francisco; with a rich and spicy tomato based seafood stew (cioppino I believe they call it). I shared the bottle with friends over mixed entrees. It caught me by surprise. Unlike any pinot noir that I have had before or since. It was bold, spicy, had some weight to it, and ... Read More
