Martin Ray Winery started in Saratoga California in the WW2 era. Martin Ray was a viticulture student of Paul Masson. This location was established in 1881 as the Twin Fir Winery. This historic site is distinguished as the oldest winery in continuous operation in Sonoma County and one of the oldest wineries in California. Some of the old grape crush barns from the original days still exist. If you are offered a tour of the old barns, gleefully accept the invitation. The Martin Ray Winery buildings would make a great movie locale. Check out the dozen old concrete vats. Each vat holds 33,000 gallons! Martin Ray Winery production began here in 2003. 9 varietals and some bulk wine blends are made. The reserve wines are silky smooth, loaded with flavor. Prices are very reasonable for these high quality wines. – Description from mriskic

  • Martin Ray Chardonnay Carneros 2013

    Snoothrank:

Pretty decent Carneros chardonnay. Normally the Martin Ray chards are fairly basic but this one has a bit of depth, some nice creaminess, soft lemon pith, decent acidity and a medium finish. Very similar to the 2012. Read More

  • Martin Ray Winery Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Not bad, not great sauv blanc from russian river. Not a lot going on but there is a touch of creamy lemon and some decent acidity. This is more on the lemon side of flavors, not any of the NZ grapefruit. Overall, decent for the price, would probably buy again for a summer deck or mid-week quaff. Read More

  • Martin Ray Chardonnay Carneros 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very nice Martin Ray Chardonnay from Carneros. Light and crisp with really nice acidity. Creamy lemon and green apple notes cover the mid-palate and hang on for a medium+ finish. Extremely enjoyable for the price. Read More

  • Martin Ray Red 2010

    Snoothrank:

Very passable Sonoma red blend from Martin Ray. Picking up hints of cab and maybe some petite sirah but somewhat lighter in body. There's dark cherry, plum and a touch of smoke, light tannins and medium-short finish. Not bad for around $10. Read More

  • Martin Ray Chardonnay Reserve Carneros 2011

    Snoothrank:

Fairly nice Carneros chardonnay. Not overly complex or layered but decent fruit overtones of green apple, pear and lemon chiffon. Not overly oaked or too buttery with decent acidity. Read More

  • Not only is Cabernet Sauvignon the most popular red wine, it’s also one that is best suited to gift giving. It’s a wine that everyone knows and understands. Big, rich and bold, it’s the archetype of red wines that is perfect for the cooler months that lie ahead. While Cabernet does get a bit of a bad rap as being ubiquitous, that doesn’t mean th...
