Martin Ray Winery started in Saratoga California in the WW2 era. Martin Ray was a viticulture student of Paul Masson. This location was established in 1881 as the Twin Fir Winery. This historic site is distinguished as the oldest winery in continuous operation in Sonoma County and one of the oldest wineries in California. Some of the old grape crush barns from the original days still exist. If you are offered a tour of the old barns, gleefully accept the invitation. The Martin Ray Winery buildings would make a great movie locale. Check out the dozen old concrete vats. Each vat holds 33,000 gallons! Martin Ray Winery production began here in 2003. 9 varietals and some bulk wine blends are made. The reserve wines are silky smooth, loaded with flavor. Prices are very reasonable for these high quality wines. – Description from mriskic

  • Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2015

Grassy notes of golden berries, lemon zest and peach on the nose. Delicate on entry, this develops a tart acidity through the mid-palate and shows more lemon zest, white peach and blossom notes with a green note of beeswax and cut lawn towards the finish. Read More

  • Martin Ray Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Very attractive plum color in the glass. Very fruity aromas. Lots of black currant on the tongue. Then, some pretty stiff tannins appear. This gives the scratchiness that suggests tobacco. A big, full-bodied wine. I had a bit of this leftover for Day 2. It seems that a day of sitting has muted this wine, a bit. It seems less fruity and le... Read More

  • Martin Ray Chardonnay Carneros 2013

Pretty decent Carneros chardonnay. Normally the Martin Ray chards are fairly basic but this one has a bit of depth, some nice creaminess, soft lemon pith, decent acidity and a medium finish. Very similar to the 2012. Read More

  • Martin Ray Winery Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2013

Not bad, not great sauv blanc from russian river. Not a lot going on but there is a touch of creamy lemon and some decent acidity. This is more on the lemon side of flavors, not any of the NZ grapefruit. Overall, decent for the price, would probably buy again for a summer deck or mid-week quaff. Read More
