In Italian, “Macchia” means “the spot”. In Lodi, Macchia Winery has been earning a reputation as a spot where discriminating vino buffs can find small lots of high-quality vintages -- at some very reasonable prices. It is a tried-and-true strategy for making exceptional wines that Tim Holdener says is at the heart of his winemaking philosophy. Well aware of the potential for quality that was long ignored by many winemakers outside the Lodi area; the Holdeners make a variety of different Zinfandels, each sporting its own distinctive qualities. – Description from iskicm

Complex Zin from Lodi. Cherry on the nose with strong alcohol. On the palate, strong Bing cherries and plums with smoke and pepper. Silky tannins. Long finish. Would be 4.5 if alcohol wasn't as strong. Read More

  • Just tried the Macchia Delicious and it was just that! Yet another winner in their collection. Am looking forward to trying the Barbera (although I don't usually like wines that are too dry).

  • Macchia is one of the go to wineries in Lodi. Tim Holdener is not only a gifted winemaker, he and his wife Lani can be found there most weekends to meet and greet their customers. There wine club members get treated well too. If you like big, bold, tasty wines, Macchia is your kind of winery.
