Lyeth Estate

Established by Chip Lyeth in 1981, Lyeth was one of the first wineries in California to pursue the unique complexity and composition achieved by the marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon with the other major Bordeaux varieties, now known as the Meritage style. The term "Meritage" (prounouced like "heritage") is a combination of the words "merit" and "heritage". Lyeth became a founding member of the Meritage Association in1988, which created the Meritage concept as a means of identifying blends produced in the Bordeaux style. Today it continues the tradition of blending family and tradition in its wines, winning praise from critics and consumers worldwide. – Description from karaallen

  • Lyeth L de Lyeth Meritage 2011

    Snoothrank:

Dark red with hints of purple. Held nicely in the fridge. Characteristic of a meritage, good blend, not overly acidic/heavy oak. Can pick up that Sonoma earth in here. Read More

  • Lyeth Meritage 1997

    Snoothrank:

Slight brownish tint around the edge makes me a bit fearful of oxidation. Nose is a bit sour. So, now I'm getting a bit scared. OK, on the palate, things are fine. A bit more fruit on the front of the tongue than I like to see--a sweetish thing with some hints of cherryor other berries. I'll attribute that to the Merlot component. Very mel... Read More

  • Lyeth L de Lyeth Meritage 2006

    Snoothrank:

Showing age on the nose. Truffle notes, forest floor, some cola, dried flowers, leaves and red fruits. On the palate, retains fair structure. Dusty red berry fruit with hints of pepper. Relaxed tannin and nicely balanced acid. Starting to weaken a bit though, short finish. Still tasty, but a tad watered down, so drink now. 84 pts Read More

  • Lyeth L de Lyeth Meritage 2008

    Snoothrank:

Not bad. A little earthy and dry on the finish. Not as smooth or as fruit forward as I like my Meritage blends. But not a bad wine. Read More
