Founded in 1978 by long-time vintner David Lucas, The Lucas Winery is devoted to creating elegant Chardonnay and vineyard-designated Zinfandels that demonstrate the Lodi appellation’s greatest potential. David Lucas and his wife, Heather Pyle-Lucas handcraft our wines. Both have accomplished histories; David as former vineyard manager for Robert Mondavi Winery and Heather as winemaker for Mondavi and Opus. Our flagship wine, ZinStar Zinfandel, represents our winemaking philosophy; that great wines are made in the vineyard, and in our case, from our old vine, organically farmed property. Visitors to our historic barn tasting room, refurbished in 2000, will experience a hands-on glimpse into fun and informational vineyard happenings, wines, and our distinctive Grand Chai. The Lucas Winery is proud to feature an interactive wine club where our friends and customers have access to our limited release wines. We also host several events a year, from Great Chefs of San Joaquin County to our very own Chardonnay and ZinStar Zinfandel Retrospectives. We welcome guests and visitors Valentine’s Day until Christmas.

  • Lucas J. Pinot Noir Clone 777 Sangiacomo Vineyards 2009

    Snoothrank:

Just a fantastic California sparkler. Tight bubbles, somewhat dry on the sides but a bit of residual on the back of the tongue. This is pale pink in color with a bit of yeast on the nose. Read More

  • Lucas J. Pinot Noir Clone 777 Sangiacomo Vineyards 2009

    Snoothrank:

Dark, a bit sour fruited and citrussy on the nose then turning a little sweet and earthy with hints of Asian pear, wild cherry and dried rose petals. A very fine mousse greets the palate along with a hint of dill right up front. Elegant on the palate with lovely herbal shadings to the fruit which is a bit front loaded with fruit then turns nuanc... Read More

  • Lucas Lodi Appellation Late Harvest Zinfandel 2007

    Snoothrank:

Good flavor, without the port-sherry taste. Would be good poured over Vanilla ice cream .. Not $50 good to me. We thought all their wines were way over-priced. We did not purchase. Read More

Meh - I've had better. Rather blah, nondescript aroma. A bit dry. That's about it. Read More

  • The Lucas Winery Chardonnay Lode 2008

    Snoothrank:

Normally I pass on Chardonnay, but this one was not as bitter, nor as oakey as most Chards. Pairs well with sharp white cheddar. A bit pricey. That's about it. Read More

    Snoothrank:

This stop at J Wine was part of a Russian River trip!Made with grapes sourced from 14 different vineyard, this was well balanced with fruity notes of dark cherry, leather and spices. Although well made, this did not stand out.For more on the tasting, please visit http://dionyshius.blogspot.com/2012/07/russian-river-j-vineyards-and-winery.html Read More
