Lovingston Winery, located in the rolling countryside of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is dedicated to the production of the highest-quality wines. Primarily family-run along with head winemaker Riaan Rossouw, we take great pride in offering a pleasing experience in every bottle. Currently, we have six acres of densely-planted vines – four in Merlot, one in Cabernet Franc and one in Pinotage. MerlotThis “dense planting” – 1200 vines to the acre – stems from the idea that by limiting the number of grape bunches a vine is able to produce, that vine concentrates all of its energy into fewer bunches, increasing the quality of those grapes. Richly earthy nose with notes of cherries. The silky tannins drink more like a Burgundian Pinot Noir than a traditional South African Pinotage, but in a region that sees very little Pinot Noir, this is a welcome addition to my wine rack. Read More

  • Lovingston Seyval Blanc 2012

Heady tropical aromas of pineapple, mango and banana warm into juicy floral bliss. Crisp, minerally and just a touch acidic. Tropical notes aren't my favorite so I'm unlikely to purchase a bottle of this, but it's a good example of a varietal somewhat particular to the Eastern US. Read More
