  • Little is as exciting as seeing transitions in a tradition-bound region. In Chablis, a land locked by tradition and a single variety, innovation might seem unfeasible. Not only is Chardonnay the rule, but the wines in Chablis are supposed to taste very predictable – at least on the palates of seasoned sippers. Yet there is new energy in Chablis,... Read More

  • Cave de Lugny Mâcon-Lugny la Carte Lieu-Dit 2011

This lovely Chardonnay offers up melon and anise to the nostrils with a good dose of exotic flower honey; the entry is round, viscous - filled with licorice, honey and cooking apple nuances on the tongue. Super bargain. 88 points. Read More

  • JD, that looks like a good one to stockpile for summer picnics.  The blurb on the website says it's from PN picked for the purpose.  My guess is that it may have a little trouble ripening or developing color and it's not from an established lieu-dit, so it's a way to put out a little extra wine and cover some of the capital costs.  Not a bad way... • Maybe I’m a purist or maybe too old fashioned and trapped in my own little world of terrior and varietals.  But this for some reason makes me uncomfortable.  Is Justin Beaver coming out with a Sauv Blanc next month?  Or maybe a new Chenin Blanc....   Whats next….Brangelina's (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) new wine premiers to rave reviews.  http... • I was going to put this in the Whatcha Drinking Tonight thread. But since there was some Syrah talk going on I thought I'd start a new thread on Cool Climate Syrah.Tonight I'm visiting a wine I haven't had in since May and wanted to see how it is progressing. It comes from high up atop the Yorkville Highlands in the Anderson Valley  which is in ... Read More

  • Régis Bouvier Bourgogne Pinot Noir En Montre Cul 2010

This Bourgogne Rouge merits its lieu-dit. First, the vines sit on a hillside, not on a plain. Second, they are 50-years-old. The wine shows height-of-summer blueberry fruit, supple tannins and grapey youthfulness. Shell out the few extra bucks for this rather than the straight Bourgogne. Drink through 2015. Read More
