The Librandi winery is headquartered in Cirò Marina. This small Calabrian town is on the Ionian coast, near the Punta Alice promontory, south of the Gulf of Taranto. This area is naturally suited to wine growing: the soil is predisposed for vines and its happy geographic position, close to the sea with the Sila Mountains at its back, is such that it guarantees an excellent contrast between day-and-night time temperatures. Labrandi has grown grapes for four generations and in the 50s began botling as well.

  • I've had the Duca San Felice from Librandi, by Ciro.  Good stuff.  A local restaurant, A Cote, has it on the list and I first tasted it there in a flight of Calabrian wines.  I noticed some licorice notes in the wine.  The restaurant is not carrying it now, but I've seen it at my local wine shop here in Oakland.  Alas, that helps you not at all ...
