Our vineyard strategy is an acknowledgement of the Old World with a gust of New World History has demonstrated that the best wines ultimately come from the best vineyard sites. This is "terroir." Fortunately for us (and you), the Okanagan Valley happens to be one of the best wine regions with its unique climate and variety of latitudes and soils. There is a perceptible difference in temperature and greenery, from the lushness of the north to the sage ridden desert in the South. According to WineBC, the area between Oliver and Osoyoos is the northernmost tip of the northernmost desert in the world; the Sonora Desert. Summers are generally very hot with July and August being warmer than Napa Valley, but the evenings are markedly cooler. Osoyoos has 1450 growing degree days and 8 inches of average annual rainfall (WineBC.com). Low rainfall, high heat units and a dry environment allow us to farm in a sustainable manner with all the respect the land deserves. Along with our sister winery Lastella we have 50 acres scattered through the South Okanagan in small parcels from 8.5 acres to 12 acres. We also contract grapes from quality minded growers who have certified organic vineyards or grow sustainably.

  • Le Vieux Pin Ava 2011

    Snoothrank:

The Rhone-style white is mostly Viognier (78%) but does not especially show it - the scent of cooking spices is muted. This is not altogether bad, however, as it allows the finesse of Roussanne and the softness of Marsanne to coat the palate with herbal tea flavors. A nice, refreshing wine in the style we want to see more of. 88 points. Read More

  • Le Vieux Pin "Le Coq" Pinot Noir Canada Pinot Noir 2007

    Snoothrank:

Too bad this Okanagan Boutique winery has bid "adieu" to Pinot Noir when things were looking so promising. This 2007 is actually quite deep for a BC Pinot and has some French elegance to boot. Notes are mostly strawberry - like a light vintage from Burgundy - but there is some flair and a pleasing medium finish. Tasted at Westwood Wines in Co... Read More

  •  OK, add together Parker's influence over the past decade or two, Chinese money over the past few years, and a little bit of marketing acumen by LVMH, the Bordelaise and even the odd Southern Californian. What results? Hopefully a bubble in prices that can't continue indefinitely, after an event like the likely Chinese bubble burst within a coup... Read More

  • Just thought I would share three videos on Bordeaux 2010, from en primeur week. I like how Bill Blatch for example lends a certain realism to the tasting experience, although I did not find the wines THAT difficult to taste. Certainly 2009 was easier to taste en primeur, it was a more immediately flattering tasting experience on the whole. As wa... Read More
