Langmeil Winery

Family owned and operated, Langmeil is the home of the Barossa and Australia’s oldest known surviving vineyard planted to Shiraz in 1843, from where the iconic Freedom 1843 Shiraz hails. Since 1996 when the Bitter and Lindner families re-established the abandoned winery, Langmeil has had considerable success and has been awarded 5 stars in the Halliday Wine Companion six years in succession, placing it in the top 5% of premium Australian producers. Without contradiction, Langmeil wines are ‘cutting edge old school’ quality Barossa wine.

  • Below are some good online wine purveyors I've dealt with very successfully over the years. They have provided well-curated wine selections at good prices, processed purchases well, and shipped efficiently (though not all internationally). I'm throwing their names out with multiple aims in mind:to see if anyone has good or bad experiences to sha... Read More

  • You have to love Australia’s red wines. If for nothing else than the sheer simplicity of twisting off a baker’s dozen of screw-caps as opposed to setting out to fight with so many corks. OK that’s not a tremendous motivation to get you to try these wines but it was a sweet sight for my sore eyes, or hand as the case may be. Some of these wines w... Read More

  • Langmeil 'Valley Floor' Shiraz 2010

herbal, finely focused and quite perfumed on the nose with tarry, dark candied fruit and jammy blackberry notes rising from the glass. This is rich and powerful in the mouth but very well balanced. An initial rush of pomegranate and mulberry fruit is followed by some sweetly toasted oak notes all supported by the rather well balanced acid and ta... Read More

  • Langmeil Shiraz Orphan Bank 2010

A little pencil lead leads off the rather fudgy and ripe on the nose which picks up notes of violet pastille, mineral and wood spice with air. On entry this is very smooth and polished. Round opulent and mouth filling, this is as lush a wine as I can take but at the same time its deep and relatively fresh with raspberry tinged fruit on the pal... Read More

  • Langmeil 'jackaman's Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Lightly oaky at first on the nose but air brings out lovely spicy, black cherry and black currant fruit that is lyered over lovely dried chili aromas all topped with earthy nuance and a whiff of eucalyptus. In the mouth this is powerful yet, elegant and refined with superb clarity to the fresh black fruits on the palate that yeild to a lovely red... • Pinot has been a much celebrated topic here on Snooth over the years I've participated, and it's obviously one of the more celebrated grapes in the wine world. It'll no doubt be a story line I plan on focusing on in years to come so I thought I'd start a thread, logging experiences. Sorry in advance, Greg T.Having said that, I've been mostly dis...
