Langmeil Winery

Family owned and operated, Langmeil is the home of the Barossa and Australia’s oldest known surviving vineyard planted to Shiraz in 1843, from where the iconic Freedom 1843 Shiraz hails. Since 1996 when the Bitter and Lindner families re-established the abandoned winery, Langmeil has had considerable success and has been awarded 5 stars in the Halliday Wine Companion six years in succession, placing it in the top 5% of premium Australian producers. Without contradiction, Langmeil wines are ‘cutting edge old school’ quality Barossa wine.

  • Langmeil Shiraz Orphan Bank 2010

    Snoothrank:

A little pencil lead leads off the rather fudgy and ripe on the nose which picks up notes of violet pastille, mineral and wood spice with air. On entry this is very smooth and polished. Round opulent and mouth filling, this is as lush a wine as I can take but at the same time its deep and relatively fresh with raspberry tinged fruit on the pal... Read More

  • Langmeil 'jackaman's Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

    Snoothrank:

Lightly oaky at first on the nose but air brings out lovely spicy, black cherry and black currant fruit that is lyered over lovely dried chili aromas all topped with earthy nuance and a whiff of eucalyptus. In the mouth this is powerful yet, elegant and refined with superb clarity to the fresh black fruits on the palate that yeild to a lovely red... It'll no doubt be a story line I plan on focusing on in years to come so I thought I'd start a thread, logging experiences. Sorry in advance, Greg T.Having said that, I've been mostly dis... • Langmeil Three Gardens Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvedre 2009

    Snoothrank:

The long mile, indeed. This one's full of black pepper, big bunches of blackberries, heat, some barnyard aromas. That's just the aroma. On the palate it's a huge wine, big with a good portion of spice, leather and a sticky black tar finish. Grab a big chunk of grilled meat and enjoy. Read More
