Langmeil Winery

Family owned and operated, Langmeil is the home of the Barossa and Australia’s oldest known surviving vineyard planted to Shiraz in 1843, from where the iconic Freedom 1843 Shiraz hails. Since 1996 when the Bitter and Lindner families re-established the abandoned winery, Langmeil has had considerable success and has been awarded 5 stars in the Halliday Wine Companion six years in succession, placing it in the top 5% of premium Australian producers. Without contradiction, Langmeil wines are ‘cutting edge old school’ quality Barossa wine.

  • I had a bunch of the guys I ride with and their others over for a barbeque yesterday.  My wife went to a place in Oak Bay village, called the Village Butcher and got a bunch of ribs and put a rub on them on Friday.  She did those and I did chicken and spicy sausages on the barbeque.  People brought all kinds of wonderful additions including a ho... • This Topic is partially intended to start a new thread on daily wine drinking as the earlier topics are just too long and too general.  How about telling us more about your choices and helping me start a new thread for the next generation, so to speak?  The "why" is the interesting part for some of us - but pictures are always welcome; after all... • Below are some good online wine purveyors I've dealt with very successfully over the years. They have provided well-curated wine selections at good prices, processed purchases well, and shipped efficiently (though not all internationally). I'm throwing their names out with multiple aims in mind:to see if anyone has good or bad experiences to sha... Read More

  • You have to love Australia’s red wines. If for nothing else than the sheer simplicity of twisting off a baker’s dozen of screw-caps as opposed to setting out to fight with so many corks. OK that’s not a tremendous motivation to get you to try these wines but it was a sweet sight for my sore eyes, or hand as the case may be. Some of these wines w... Read More

  • Langmeil Barossa Valley Floor Shiraz 2010

herbal, finely focused and quite perfumed on the nose with tarry, dark candied fruit and jammy blackberry notes rising from the glass. This is rich and powerful in the mouth but very well balanced. An initial rush of pomegranate and mulberry fruit is followed by some sweetly toasted oak notes all supported by the rather well balanced acid and ta... Read More
