Lamborghini is the wine brand founded by Italian sports car manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini. The estate, situated in Panicale, lies near Trasimeno lake on the Umbria-Tuscan border. Born into a family of wine grape-growers, Lamborghini purchased the estate to get back to his roots upon his retirement in 1971. The property boasts a total 100 hectares, divided between a 9-hole golf course, agriturismo and the 32 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Besides the traditional plantings of Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, he also planted Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, a bold move at the time. His daughter Patrizia Lamborghini took over the business in the 1990s, taking up most of the white rootstock in favor of the Sangiovese and Merlot. The red blend wines are produced adhering to very high standards of quality production.
