You can’t make great wine from mediocre grapes. Lake Sonoma Winery is dedicated to creating the ultimate expression of our Sonoma sub-appellation vineyards. Quality over quantity is our guide. The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Raise your standards. Lake Sonoma Winery - THE GOLD STANDARD. – Description from cpeterson

  • Would be interested in hearing from people here about any redwine and fish, crustacean, mollusk, etc. combinations they/you have found to work successfully. Having been initiated at the beginning of my wine tippling into the traditional white-for-fish, red-for-meat school of thought, I've since found that several reds and roses can work just fin... • Paso Robles Trip Notes:I went to Paso Robles over the weekend of the 26th of September. I had intended to be there three days, but something came up and I was only there for Sat and part of Sun, so I ended up getting to just a small selection of places. But I could have been there a week and still not gone everywhere I wanted to go! I will re... Read More

  • I'm planning to travel to Cali and on this trip I'm not looking for the famous wineries that everyone knows about and is always jam packed with people and tourists. I want an intimate setting, something off the road, where I'll be given some attention and be able to chat and enjoy my wine instead of being rushed. Any good suggestions from those ... Read More

  • Lake Sonoma Winery Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Old Vine Saini Farms 2006

    Snoothrank:

Restrained and tight with a core of meaty, soy tinged jerky, black pepper and toasty oak aromas with a touch of pine resin embedded in a subtle roast black cherry fruitiness. Rather restrained in the mouth as well with a bit of drying, woody tannin poking out. There is a nice core of cherry fruit here with spice note that lean towards licorice ... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Vanilla and candied cinnamon on the nose. Gritty but delicate blackberries and spice with a meandering fruity finish that doesn't want to let go. Love it. Read More

  • Lake Sonoma Winery Sangiovese Alexander Valley 2006

    Snoothrank:

Much lighter in color and body than what I have experienced in past sangioveses. But, it was a really nice change. Armoas and flavors of fresh fruit, including cherry and strawberry, with pleasant notes of leather and oak. Refreshing and well-balanced. In fact, I think this could probably be slightly chilled and serve as a nice summer sippin... Read More

  • The subject says it all. My wife, her parents and myself will be staying in Napa for a week starting Sunday. My Father in Law is in to that jammy, over-extracted style of zin. His favorite as of yet is Rombauer, but I thought I'd hop on here and see if anyone could point me in the direction of some others that have similar characteristics. U... Read More
