You can’t make great wine from mediocre grapes. Lake Sonoma Winery is dedicated to creating the ultimate expression of our Sonoma sub-appellation vineyards. Quality over quantity is our guide. The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Raise your standards. Lake Sonoma Winery - THE GOLD STANDARD. – Description from cpeterson

Oaky on the nose, with plenty of toasted almond and vanilla but theres plenty of fruit here as well with nice notes of nectarine, pineapple and lime, and a nice note of licorice root. A bit fat and slightly creamy but at the same time this sits rather high on the palate exhibiting lovely definition and a nice bit of cut. The flavors are just a t... Read More

  • You could put this under "Wine and Travel," but here's the idea:  dmcker responded to something I said about Cline wines that got me thinking.  Some wines are good, but not necessarily worth seeking out.  They're completely enjoyable, reliable from vintage to vintage, affordable, and widely found.  These aren't always the experiences we are afte... • I have had a general dislike for syrahs for several years now... they just seem too BIG for me, and my tastes have changed toward lighter-style wines.  However I have discovered that there are some syrahs that I very much enjoy..  Recently, I was on my way up to Russian River.  I stopped in at Taft Street Winery in Sebastopol, www.taftstreetwine... • I've been powering through wines from Spain, South Africa, and Chile. I've got say that of all of them the Carmeneres ahve been the most surpring. You've got to like a bit of herbaceousness in your wines, which I do, but in general they were some really distinctive and intresting wines. For summer the Rose season is apon us but I have yet to be ... • I was looking through the 'funny names' thread and realized that several that I had listed were wines that give a portion of the proceeds to charity.  I would love to know about others, since I'm more willing to try an 'okay' wine if I know that it's going to a good cause. Here are a few to get us started:Vinum Cellars Pets Petite Sirah - benefi...
