You can’t make great wine from mediocre grapes. Lake Sonoma Winery is dedicated to creating the ultimate expression of our Sonoma sub-appellation vineyards. Quality over quantity is our guide. The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Raise your standards. Lake Sonoma Winery - THE GOLD STANDARD. – Description from cpeterson

  • Yesterday I was recovering from Monday night.  You see, Sandra & I attended a wonderful wine tasting event.  For $40 per couple, we joined Nice Legs, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Crystal City, and the Crystal City Wine Shop for a tasting of more than 45 different wines poured by winemakers, winery representatives and importers.  Here are those fol... • I believe that folks might already have gleaned that I am somewhat of a Zinfandel fanatic but some of my previous posts. In truth my job has resulted in my drinking less, not more Zin but left to my own devises that would not be the case. Zinfandel remains for me the greatest American wine, both for the sheer joyousness of the wine and the histo... Read More

  • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ... • When we talk about Zinfandel we often tend to focus on those most familiar to us. Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, Amador County, and even Napa get their fair share of attention, though just as often we tend to gloss over some terrific wine producing regions. I’m sure that on the whole my coverage of Zinfandel this year will be equally lopsided ... Read More

  • Let me start by saying I pretty much drink chardonnay from France or California. If it's 90% butter and little else, I'm out. If it tastes like lemon juice and weeds, I'm also out. If California, I'm looking for nicely developed fruit profile without so much oak that it taste like I'm sucking on a tree. I like Peter Michael chardonnay ***a lot**... Read More

  • Yes DVogler, I have visited some vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, and I think even Lake County but it's been a few years and chapters in the past. I also live down the road fr... Read More

  • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ...
