You can’t make great wine from mediocre grapes. Lake Sonoma Winery is dedicated to creating the ultimate expression of our Sonoma sub-appellation vineyards. Quality over quantity is our guide. The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Raise your standards. Lake Sonoma Winery - THE GOLD STANDARD. – Description from cpeterson

  • After last week’s look at value-oriented Zinfandel, I was pretty excited ... ... cherry finale. 87pts2009 Lake Sonoma Winery Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 15% $16 A bit woody on the nose, though it has attractive cedar and spice notes over licorice-draped black cherry fruit. This is nicely plump on entry with a classic vanilla, black cherry fruit... Read More

  • I'm planning on being in Napa on Wednesday the 25th and will probably visit at least two wineries while there. Anyone care to meet up, just let me know.My first priority seems to be Outpost Winery, though there are a few others I'm considering, I'll probably start at Outpost at 2pm if they can accommodate. • Everywhere I turn, I see people talking about 2010 in the Rhone (both north and south).  Lately, I've been on a mission to taste a lot of these wines and so far I've found some good, some bad and some that really would be better poured over pancakes.  In some cases, I've agreed with some of the wines being pushed by the "wine critic illuminati".... • As many of my fellow Snoothers know, I'm a big fan of the wines of the Dry Creek Valley and particularly of a few of the winemakers up there.  Most of them specialize to a degree in Zinfandel, a grape that has its hard-core fans, but does not get all the recognition of more widely-planted varieties like Cabernet, Syrah, Pinot Noir.  A lot of fol... • Taking a 4 day holiday in San Francisco and was interested in having some wine to drink and bring a few bottles back home. Now, I don't really want to drive far as I would rather stay in the city to check out dining, shopping and the likes. Are there any wineries/etc within the city limits that I could tour?
