You can’t make great wine from mediocre grapes. Lake Sonoma Winery is dedicated to creating the ultimate expression of our Sonoma sub-appellation vineyards. Quality over quantity is our guide. The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Raise your standards. Lake Sonoma Winery - THE GOLD STANDARD. – Description from cpeterson

  • Lake Sonoma Winery Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2011

    Snoothrank:

Caramel, vanilla and creme brulee grace the nose here along with some fennel seed and melony fruit. Broad, supple and yet juicy in the mouth ,this delivers some lovely green apple and melon flavors along with a fair dose of the caramel and creme brulee from the nose. Its an open, easy drinking style that is fruit forward but with refreshing acid... Read More

  • Good news! I've been invited to my first wine makers dinner! Needless to say, I'm excited about the opportunity. The dinner is going to be with Gilles Nicault from Long Shadows next week.Naturally I'll be doing my homework in advance to learn what I can and think about good questions I'd like to ask. I know that Long Shadows has been discussed h... Read More

  • Well we are back from the Glen Ellen/Kenwood trip. We found a few wines we liked, and enjoyed exploring the area. Since I am a big pinot person, especially RRV or sonoma coast, I knew I wasn't necessarily in the heart of that area of Sonoma,  But since it had been so long since I visited this area, we decided to give it a go.We stopped first in ... • Hi Guys:In my ongoing saga of trying to learn how to cook, I'm planning on giving lobster thermidor a whirl soon. I'd like to pair it with 2-3 wines, mostly as a pairing experiment to see which works best. Any ideas? • Zinfandel, it’s no secret that I’ve carried on a long and intimate relationship with you. There is so much you have to offer. Sometimes you're a bit rough and tumble, edgy, even dangerous, while other times you’re coy or playful. But you’re always there for me, with joyous fruit, classic bramble notes and structure, allowing for early consumptio... Read More

  • Elsewhere you can read about the offline I attended with OT and GdP and a bunch of winemakers, winelovers, and the like.  But on the way there, I think I solved a major problem with California wine; over conversation with GdP and an assistant winemaker from Napa, my belief was confirmed.I read in an obituary of Aldo Conterno that he had come to ...
