La Terre are inexpensive wines produced in California that have developed a following through sale in restaurants. The name translates to “the earth,” although these wines are known for their fruity styles of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and White Zinfandel. This is a private label brand with no other known winery information other than it is owned by a Vietnamese wholesaler.

  • Domaine de la Terre Rouge Fiddletown Dtr Ranch Syrah 2006

    Snoothrank:

Deep, dark cherry and baking spices, blackberry notes and a medicinal finish. Very rich and delicious. Read More

  • Domaine de la Terre Rouge Red Rhone Blend Amador County Tête-À-Tête 2005

    Snoothrank:

Spicy and earthy, with the Syrah really shining through. This is a great bottle to pair with any rich beef or game dish, and drinks well on its own, too. The deep aromatics hint at coffee and cacao, without overwhelming the dense fruit at its core. Very, very good. A killer bargain. Four stars, at this price point, at least. Read More

  • I'm traveling to Sicily from July 20-August 9 and am curious to know if anyone has done any winery visits there. I've had some nero d'avola from Spadina and quite liked it. La Planeta was also good. Any other suggestions? Read More

  • Well the 2005 Barolos are tasted, and I cant help but think back to what I said last year. 2005 is a successful vintage that reflects terroir and winemaking more than weather and will need more time to be as approachable as 2004.This years tasting was a mixed crop and a challenge.  Many of the wines suffered from one defect or another, be those ... AWE blind tasting - jammy, spicy, a bit woody, normal modern nose with more violet and medicinal but still sickly sweet, nice dark fruit in the mouth, lots of coffee character, nicely managed tannins, bitter sweet, bitter cherry long finish, lots of tannin on the finish, a bit clumsy on the finish 84-85 Read More
