Established in 1999, Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard is one of the East Coast's most prestigious wineries. The winery is tucked into Carter's Mountain on the edge of the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia. Kluge Estates Winery & Vineyard's 900 acres are located on the same ridgeline of the birthplace of American viticulture, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Combining meticulous winemaking practices and world talent with a genuine love of the land and support for the Virginia wine community, Kluge Estate is capitalizing on the region’s potential to create world-class wines. We are passionate about wine, food and the enjoyment of the natural beauty that abounds us and invite you to visit our tasting room and to purchase our wines online. The origin of Virginia winemaking began with the 1607 Jamestown settlement, when the first Virginia wine was produced in 1609 from native grapes. Despite this promising start, winemaking in the New World was far more of a challenge than anticipated, evidenced by two centuries of frustration in producing wine. Virginia is developing into an influential and important U.S. winemaking region with continued dedication to quality and Read more »

Absolutely LOVE this wine! Nothing like it anywhere! I've tried to describe it to friends and I simply can't, then I have them try it and then we share a smile. :). It's truly a uniquely American original. Thank you Mr Trump for keeping this winery alive and making an occasional glass of CRU a very happy part of my life. ... And boy does it pack... Read More

  • Kluge Estate New World Red 2004

This wine reminds me of so many peculiar smells that i can only associate them with nostalgic memories of being a kid growing up around my grandmother, having kept a very good smell memory of scents i can't pin down. This wine is austere, dark, full, smokey, slightly chocolaty, worn clothing or fabric furniture with cigarette laden scents from o... Read More

  • Kluge Estate New World Red 2002

It's difficult for me to find words that describe just how much I disagree with the idea that the 2002 Kluge red, if it even still exists, is anywhere near what's being produced in Virginia ALONE... LET alone what's being produced in California.DO NOT, and I plead with you to not throw this wine up as an example of World Class Virginia reds wine... Read More

Bottled at the wrong time. This "high end" wine is not as good as other vintages... The 2002, 2003, 2004 are much better. Don't waste your money, get a 2002 or a 2006. Read More

A phenomenal wine never released to the liquor distributors. This is comparable to $100 Napa valley wines in my opinion. The 2002 is great as soon as you open the bottle... after a few days, it does start to deterioate, but still has a great taste and impeccable smoothness. Read More

  • The biggest non-surprise to those who know the first thing about Virginia wines has finally made itself apparent to the press: Kluge Estate (as well as Sweely Estate- another operation that stretched itself too far financially regarding expansion during rough times) are going belly up.Here's the story from C-Ville...The most interesting part of ... • Kluge New World Red Albemarle County 2005

Old world earthy bordeaux style. Lots of clove and tobacco. There is a strange flavor that I can't shake that turns me off. I am sure french wine lovers would really like this, it's just not my cup of tea. Read More
