Kenneth Volk Vineyards is located on Tepusquet Road, in the northeastern portion of the Santa Maria Valley AVA in Santa Barbara County, California. The property is located at the mouth of Tepusquet Canyon on the Sisquoc River Bench. The vineyard and winery property was formerly the "original" Byron Winery (the "new" Byron Winery is located next door), established by Ken Byron Brown in 1981. In 1994 the winery was acquired by the Robert Mondavi Winery Corporation. Ken Volk purchased the building and land at the end of 2004, after over a year of negotiations. The sale included the winery and vineyard only - no brands, no wine, and no on-going business venture. Ken was attracted to the property for a variety of reasons, including its beautiful, tranquil location along the ever-flowing Tepusquet Creek, and the oak and sycamore riparian habitat surrounding the winery. Another blessed feature of the site is its adjacency to some of the top Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in Santa Barbara wine country. Read more »

  • Thanks Larry, I've seen you on Berserkers (where I lurk more than I post), nice to see you here on Snooth. We were thinking of stopping by yesterday after we finished our tour of the Foxen Canyon trail but saw that you aren't open on Tuesdays.  We'll take a rain check on the invite as we're on our way to Santa Barbara for the rest of the week. S... • Had a great first full day here in south central California. Started off with a very good breakfast at the ForFriends B&B in Santa Ynez. Too early for any of the tasting rooms to be open so we headed down to Jalama beach for some salt air and scenery. Beautiful beach with some interesting campsites and about a half dozen surfers enjoying some mo... Read More

  •   My wife had some carry over vacation from last year that she needed to use up so we decided to head back to Paso Robles for a couple of days.Scanning our tasting notes from 2008 there was a predominance of zinfandel and syrah in the tasting rooms.  Fast forward to 2013 and we are tasting almost exclusively Rhone blends (reds and whites).  We d... • Kenneth Volk Vineyards Roussanne Paso Robles 2007

The nose showed peaches with citrus notes and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it was weighty with apple and pear, showing excellent balance and a dollop of mouth-watering acidity. (90 points) Read More

  • Kenneth Volk Mourvedre Lime Kiln Valley Enz Vineyard 2006

Up front on the nose, is bitter chocolate. Red and black fruit and freshly turned soil. On the palate, spicy tones and an almost zinfandel-like spice with rustic berry frame. It's richly flavored, but has high alcohol which detracts a bit. Good flavor, but it finishes rather hot. Read More

  • Kenneth Volk Negrette San Benito County 2008

88 points.Berries and cream introduce the nose, with spice cabinet and pepper tones playing lightly on the edges. The aroma is sweet and fresh, with faint rose petals, raspberries, and coffee tones opening up on the spin.Soft, fresh, and red berry fruit driven, this wine follows through on the palate in very much the same way it did on the nose....
