Keenan on Snooth

  • “Michael Keenan believes there are two sides of cabernet, one fruity, one savory and herbal. He works to balance the two in the grapes from his Spring Mountain vineyards, consistently growing one of the greatest Napa Valley cabernets in his Reserve. The 2012 contrasts herbal notes of sage and forest floor with bright fruit that energizes the win... Read More

  • California Chardonnay has gone through a transformation over the years. It was the Judgement of Paris in 1976 that put it on the map as a serious wine that could rival Burgundy producers who'd been making wine for centuries. But during the 1990's, a lot of experimentation in the California wine market took place. The ideologies wanted to reflect... Read More

  • Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2001

    Snoothrank:

Dark purple color. Woodsy nose with, maybe, a suggestion of licorice. Interesting entry. I dont get any fruit sensation on the tip of the tonguesome heat, some tannin. Not until mid-palate do I get characteristic black currant suggestions. A bit of tartness on the back of the palate, but nothing terribly distracting. Its difficult to say ... Read More

  • Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 35th Anniversary 2011

    Snoothrank:

Quite dark in color. Woody, viny nose with a suggestion of olive. Initial mouth sensation is that this is pretty thin. Little or no fruit to speak of. Somewhat sour or weedy, but, then some oaky vanilla. Some leather and tobacco on the back of the palate. I normally expect Spring Mountain wines to be brutally tannic, but this one has surpri... That CF sounds like our kind of wine-BIG! RBA-Lovely spread! You have also stated that you have not tried a Paso Robles that you like. Well this 2014 Daou Cab might be worth a try as it's in the $20-$25 range.... Read More
