It is not as complex or long as more expensive bottles but it is a great example of the classic Napa notes for around $20. There are notes of bright cherry fruit, vanilla , and rasberry. There is a lot of fruit up front but that fades quickly into well rounded tannins and a short finish.    (hide)

Read moreThis wine is a great wine and deserves respect from all consumers, novice to the experts. The color is deep and dark, 'downright' regal. The nose has notes of cherries and chocolate and is copied by the initial taste, which is spicy and sharp, yet enjoyable. The mouth feel and coat is light. The follow-through lingers and is pleasant - similar to a flower bunch. This wine is great as a sipping wine, but would pair well with chicken marsala.    (hide)

  this is a wine that didnt win me over initially, but the taste was enjoyable. After decanting for about an hour there was a small turnaround up front, but the finish remained the same enjoyable and lasting.

Ridge Heitz Masonry Larkmead Joseph Phelps Sequoia Grove Our favorite experiences were the tour and pairing at Cliff Lede, the summit tasting at Pride Mountain, and the tasting at Larkmead. Cliff Lede was a small group of 4 couples lead by a very knowledgeable guide (Tom). We toured the winery and took a brief stroll through the vineyards before our tasting. It was a lot of fun but it was a little pricey. The summit tasting at Pride Mountain was amazing. It was a private tasting with one of the wineries senior staff members. We had Jason the head chef and trained sommelier. The tasting started with a tour of the caves, and we ended with tasting out of the barrel. It was great. Larkmead is on our list first of all because their wines were fantastic. Secondly, the tasting experience was a ton of fun as well. We got a brief tour from Susan through the winery and got to see cabernet grapes being sorted and de-stemmed. The tasting itself was very relaxed and intimate. This is a definite must do for the next time.    (hide)

  One of the best cab savs I've had in the 20-30 price range! Excellent body with a wonderful expansive wine that's full bodied with flavors of cherry (mostly black) and some berry.

  Joseph Phelps Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005

  Snoothrank:

  Deep, dark ruby red color. Nose is moody and dark with blue fruit, vanilla barrel, forest funk and dusty mocha... yum. On the palate, black current, raisin, licorice and with a rich, sweet mid-palate. Cherry liquor on the long finish. A really great wine that always pleases.
