Bodegas Jorge Ordoñez is a winemaking venture formed in 2004 between the Kracher family from Austria and the Ordoñez famly from Spain, as well as various friends and wine-loving entrepreneurs, based in Malaga, Spain. The winery is overseen by brother and sister winemakers Jorge and Victoria Ordoñez and Alistair Gardner is principal winemaker. The above-mentioned Kracher is none other than Alois Kracher, known for producing some of the world’s most renown Austrian sweet dessert wines. His son, Gerhard, joined the project creatively in 2008.
The project is dedicated to producing dessert wine styles using modern innovations and techniques, made from the varietal Muscat of Alexandria. Among an impressive portfolio, they are the first in modern history to produce a naturally sweet, unfortified Moscatel wine. This method has not been produced since sweet fortified wines gained popularity in the 17th century when brandy was added to the wine to stabilize Read more »

  • Jorge Ordoñez & Co. Moscatel Sierras De Málaga Seco Botani 2010

Wow, pale, pale in the glass--yellow color is barely there. Very floral bouquet--orange blossoms? As expected, very very light on the palate. Some apple, banana, mango kind of flavors going on. Nice tartness makes this wine very refreshing. Very easy to drink. I'm not sure any food is light enough for this, but we are going to try it with ... Read More

  • Monte Arcos 2010

Called Monte Arcos 2010 / Jorge Ordonez Selection / Tempranillo. Sour-sweet and earthy with spicy touches and a warm finish. A little clove, rye, chili pepper, and cranberry. Mellow and good. I continue to enjoy Spanish wines quite a bit. Read More

  • Jorge Ordoñez & Co. Moscatel Sierras De Málaga Seco Botani 2009

Very Crisp. The aroma is like laying in a field just after the rain. The taste is fresh air; a good breeze on a hot evening such as the scorcher I opened, and shared this bottle on. Thanks to Astoria Wine and Spirits for the recommendation. Read More

  • Okay, so this is not news, and it's been discussed on the forum before. In the spirit of GDP's new rants, I figured I'd throw mine out there as well. I've seen too many hangovers caused by misjudged pacing due to wild variations in alcohol content.Mostly this is difficult in restaurants. If we're shopping in stores we can check the label easily ... Read More

  • Cala Blanca Verdejo Other Whites Spain la Mancha Other White Cala Blanca 2009

Produced by Jorge Ordonez, this La Mancha Verdejo is straw bright, with aromas of green melons and grapefruits; racing flavor notes of melon rind and citrus fruits buoyant in acidity with a kiss of chalky mineral to a long finish. Grill some white fish, squeeze a little lemon, and enjoy! Read More
