Founded in 1972, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts an array of acclaimed wines from estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles and Napa Valley. From this world-class palette of fruit, J. Lohr produces three tiers of award-winning wines – J. Lohr Estates, J. Lohr Vineyard Series and J. Lohr Cuvée Series. Selecting Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco appellation for his original vineyard, Jerry planted his first 280 acres of grapes beginning in 1972. Ideally suited for cool-climate winegrowing, these vineyards have become an acclaimed source for outstanding Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. At the heart of J. Lohr’s renowned red wine program are its 2,000 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles. Featuring warm, sunny days, cool nights and diverse soils, these vineyards have proven ideal for cultivating a flavorful array of grapes including voluptuous and complex Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc along with Syrah and Zinfandel.

  • Lohr J. Carol's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

I enjoyed this with braised beef shank in a red wine based braising liquid with mushrooms and garlic. The wine a 2007 was a terrific complement that was mellow and easy drinking. The tannins were soft and there was a hint of smoke and spice. Read More

  • J.lohr Estates Cabernet Sauvignon J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon Seven Oaks San Luis Obispo 2010

Red fruit, vanilla, herbs and toasted spices come together on a nose that is fresh and well-balanced. Rather firm and dry in the mouth, there's an underlying minerality here that adds depth to the palate. The tannins are slightly austere, balancing out the fruit ripe with wild cherry, plum and pomegranate flavors. The back end shows some wood sp... Read More

  • White Riesling "Bay Mist" Monterrey 2011

This is a nice Riverstone and a good value at around $8. The nose has pear and honey but is a bit overpowered by the oak. Needs more fruit intensity but is an enjoyable wine. Not profound but not expensive either. My rating -- 86 Read More

  • J. Lohr Estates Falcon's Perch Pinot Noir 2010

Smoky on the nose with nice cherry and cola aromas that have grilled beef, green herb and toasty oak highlights. Nicely tart and acid-driven on entry, this quickly shows some meaty flavors along with notes of black cherry pie and plenty of wood spice. The texture is fairly smooth if a little chunky with peppery accents on the mid-palate that lea... Read More

  • J. Lohr Fog's Reach Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

Dense ruby leading to garnet in the glass. Big toast and smokiness on the nose with hints of cocoa, vanilla and some light funk. Once that gives way, there is lush, dense strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit. Very light suggestions of sage and white pepper. On the palate, it has a spicy entry. Oregano and thyme, followed by denser crushed... Read More
