It is incredibly intense and ranks among the greatest dessert wines. Priced that way too so hope a friend opens a bottle for you! Badia a Coltibuono make solid Vin Santo. Isole e Olena is a good value Rocca Monte Grossi also offer good value, a step down in quality perhaps Selvapiana makes a lovely example, a little lighter than many Castel in'villa make a fine one but I have not seen a bottle in years And of course both Fontodi and Felsina make excellent examples.    (hide)

The color is dark and rich, similar to iced tea, but the tone and depth is so developed that you know it is something special. The initial taste is similar to maple syrup, but the lingering finish is all caramel. The wine is smooth and bold, but not sharp. It has a great mouth feel in that they sweetness envelopes the palate and takes the place of a creme brulee anyday!    (hide)
