Irony

Most of us didn't imagine where we would be right now. Sure, we dreamed of being firemen, astronauts, rock stars and superheroes, but life often takes you where you didn't expect it to. My brother and I worked every harvest from the time we could ride our bikes. After college, our careers took us beyond the land our grandfather planted in 1924. Ironically, today we are more fulfilled, working side-by-side at the family vineyard & winery. We didn't plan it or expect it, but we are enjoying this strange twist in our lives. That's Irony - a bottle full of life's strange twists and a celebration of our family's life-long commitment to producing the finest quality wines. -- Chris & Jay – Description from dvoristanac

  • Emark - you are quite correct.Sorry!I was thinking of diacetyl and acetoin and ... be bright and crisp and the irony is that a lot of the "natural" wines that supposedly reflect their terroir so well because they're not oaky are only available today because the fermented juice was prevented from going through ML fermentation.Good catch though,... • In defense of Oaked and Buttery Chardonnays I must say that "I like it".  I know the trend is for the unoaked stainless steel ferment to be on the rise and people are saying that they prefer it over the "Other kind". That may be the trend but the Oaked and Buttery varieties are still my favorites although the unoaked brands are ok also.So in fin... Read More

  • Yep. It's that unintentional irony that irritates me about his writing in general. He can be OK when he sticks to the facts, but even there half the time he makes inane comments. Years ago he visited some small cafe in Italy and marvelled that they just brought out what we'd consider juice glasses and poured their house wine into those. His writ... Read More

  • Okay, I am pretty sure no one has this one. The family of grapes isn't ... ... up and visited.  The irony and beauty of that was not lost on me--irony, because we can find "old world" wisdom in our backyard, and beauty because vines unite us across time and distance in a way that few plants do. They brought back a bottle for themselves, too, a... Of course, the irony of "the will to survive" and "it's the end of despair/it's the joy in your heart" is beyond painful considering her tragic submission to depression.  Add to that that it's on the same record where she sings "The People You Never Get to Lo... Forum post in the topic Super Bowl, Super Wine

  • After much agony and discernment, I have chosen the official wine for my Super Bowl party this year. Over the 9 years I've hosted this event, it is probably the least exotic selection, not to mention least expensive.  Given the fact chili is the main dish (oh please, don't turn your nose. After all, we're American pigskin fans, not Bolsheviks), ... Read More
