The Huber Estate was established in 1986, and the first vines were planted in 1987, making it one of the oldest vineyards in Santa Rita Hills. The premier grapes of the appellation, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, are grown on the estate, as is the much sought after German red grape varietal called Dornfelder. Since the first harvest, grapes from the vineyard have been purchased by select premier winemakers throughout the valley. The first wines under the Huber label debuted with the 2000 vintage. Proprietors Norman and Traudl Huber are dedicated to growing grapes of flavor and quality and crafting wines of distinction. All Huber wines are handcrafted in small lots to ensure the highest quality expression of the estate vineyard and the Sta. Rita Hills area. Sta. Rita Hills is a small appellation encompassing just 100 square miles. The cool climate, ocean breezes, coastal fog and the incredible soils of the Sta. Rita Hills area all come together to create the perfect climate for growing exceptional winegrapes that then become the award winning Huber Cellars wines. Of course, the personal commitment to excellence by the talented winegrower Norm Huber, who directly manages the vineyard, must not be underestimated Read more »

  • Huber Dornfelder Sta. Rita Hills 2007

Very attractive dark purple in the glass. Nose makes me think "sweet wine," but I know I'm not going to get that. Some green wood scent. Fairly light on the tongue. No fruit flavors to speak of. Slight tannin around the edge of the tongue. Second taste does give some fruit suggestions--some plum, some cherry. I think this is a wine that w... Read More

  • Huber Estate Dornfelder Dessert Wine Sta. Rita Hills 2008

My first Dornfelder - so I have nothing to compare it to. But I am not sure I like Dornfelder. Wine is pungent and thick with a bite to it. It got my attention. Sampled in Santa Barbara. Read More

  • Huber Cellars Sta. Rita Hills Hafen Dornfelder 2009

89 points.Intense spicy tones dominate the aroma, with chocolate and peanut brittle showing through strongly. There is also a generous amount of blackcurrant preserves, a dark floral tone, and a hint of volcanic stone throughout the nose. This wine is delicately sweet, and not nearly as heavy as its thick appearance in the glass leads you to expe... • Huber Cellars Sta. Rita Hills Charlotte's Reserve Dornfelder 2007

89 points. The aroma is dark and spicy with notes of honey, maple, and dark chocolate covered walnuts. Warm brown sugar, blackberry and blackcurrant preserves, and cinnamon stick make up the core, with the faintest hint of toasted coconut coming through with a spin in the glass.Deep, dark, and seductive, this wine is bursting with blackberries an... Its full of blackberry jam, dark chocolate, and a faint woodsy quality, with a kiss of cinnamon and creamed honey coming up with a spin in the glass.Spicy and full of blackberry and blackcurrant preserves, the palate opens up strong but sophisticated. The plan is to save money by camping on the beach, so I can spend more on wine :) I will be hitting Paso Robles area on Thursday and Santa Rita Hills (and surrounding) on Friday; with Saturday reserved for off roading in the dunes. • Huber Cellars Dornfelder Santa Rita Hills Sta. Rita Hills Charlotte's Reserve 2005

I was given this wine as a thank you from someone that knew I loved wine and supposedly got a "great deal" on it (whatever that means). The wine comes with directions! It is supposed to be decanted for 24 hours. I decanted for about 6 hours and found this wine to be amazing! Definitely one of my all time favorites. Very silky smooth. Read More
