Located in the outskirts of Kelowna, nestled among apple orchards with a view of the mountains in all directions, House of Rose Winery is owned and operated by the Rose family. Our philosophy is to produce award-winning wines at affordable prices. We strive for excellence in our vineyards and wine making. Come experience the best tours in the valley and taste some fantastic wines. The winery is renowned for its Winter Wine®, a secret blend of Ice Wine with grapes picked late in the fall. Try the Gold Medal winning Foch, our fruity Reisling, or the delectable Summer White, originally produced in 2003 to celebrate our 10th Anniversary and held over by popular demand. All our fine wines are produced on site. Best of all, our wine is matured, aged a minimum of two years. – Description from Dragac

  • Bumping this thread instead of starting a new one since we are only planning on two days of tasting this time around. First stop this morning was an 11 am appointment with Todd Hamina of Biggio Hamina. Todd is a frequent poster on WineBerserkers and gets a lot of just deserved praise. Interesting wine making facility in that he shares the front ... Read More

  • Barolo is the “King” of Italian wines. Its crown, however, has changed during the past 50 years or so. Italy’s wine laws went into effect in the mid-1960’s. At that time Barolo was a DOC wine. There were 3 categories: DOC Regular (Normale), DOC Riserva, and DOC Riserva Speciale. Two years of aging in cask and 13% alcohol was required by all thre... Read More

  • Italians love Champagne. They enjoy an age-old custom of beginning a meal with a conversation and an apertivo. Very often this apertivo takes the shape of an effervescent wine. It has come about that the sparkling wines from Italy’s premier bubbly zone, Franciacorta, emerged from a passion for true French Champagne. We are speaking of the “Champ... Read More

Some of my regulars back a decade or so ago...   Pristine, Rare and Vintage California and European wines in the heart of the Napa Valley.  Dear Oenophile,Philipponnat can date itself back some 600 years, and while most famous for its Clos des Goisses Grand Cru, the Cuvee 1522 is an absolute rock star of a wine too, emphasizing balan... • I once, a few years back, almost pulled the trigger on a real estate purchase in the hills back behind the Big Sur coastline. Was reminiscing on that today, and wondered why I never hear about wine from that area. Is it because I'm so far away and out of touch and there actually are barrels and barrels of wine being made there, or because the cu... Read More

  • Most fairy tales have a happy ending but there’s a wonderful story that unfolds every year in the middle of France, bringing wealth and riches to the poor every time it’s told. And, as if by magic, the bags of gold grow bigger with every telling. Are you sitting comfortably? Way back in 1440 the Chancellor of Burgundy, Nicolas Rolin, looked from... Read More

  • Mt. Etna is located in northeastern Sicily in the province of Catania. Viticulture on the lower slopes of Mt. Etna dates back millennia. We live, however, in an age where we want to know what you have done for me lately. That’s good news for Etna’s DOC wines. Winemaking on Europe’s most active volcano is hot, both literally and figuratively. Etn... Read More

  • Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More
