Hooker Wines

Unlike monolithic brick and mortar operations, Hooker Wines are the product of a virtual winery that produces vintage blends from the finest California appellations available on the market today. Hooker Wines' 106 acre estate is nestled in its own private valley, located about five miles northwest of Calistoga in Napa Valley. The 20 acre vineyard is currently producing ultra premium Syrah, and next year's harvest will also include Viognier and Cabernet Franc. Several acres of Zinfandel are also planned for premium vineyard designate Zinfandels. But our vineyard is just a small part of the Hooker Winery. The operation itself is actually a virtual winery located on the open market wherever California's finest appellations are available. With the exception of Hooker's Home Pitch Syrah, the various wines blended for the Hooker brand are personally reviewed for superior quality and painstakingly selected for balance and synergy. In short, the Hooker Winery invests time, energy and expertise Read more »

  • Skimmed past, didn't even notice that the 'this' was highlighted in your post, Fox.There are some other wines in jugs out there, that are really not bad.The aforementioned Coppola 'Carmine: Something from Bedrock (technically 'Sherman & Hooker's Shebang) though I don't know if he still puts it out in jugs as opposed to one-liter bottles (about $... • Hooker Chardonnay Breakaway 2010

    Snoothrank:

Very lightly scented with Asian pear and apple fruit on the nose, along with some face cream and a low nuttiness. This has a pronounced acidic spine and bright citrus flavors early on that are joined by notes of steel and seashells. The minerality is certainly intriguing, but the acid is high even for me. Apple fruit emerges on the mid-palate. F... Read More

It’s not surprising that folks are looking for deals, and they usually are interested in their favorite wines, so it’s not surprising that Cabernet Sauvignon values are the most frequent request. With our Global Tasting initiative (GTI) program geared up once again I thought t... Read More

  • Hooker Old Boys Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

    Snoothrank:

Peppery earthy nose supported by a plum backbone. Where's the fruit? In the mouth it exhibits nice spice, tea flavors, and big tannins and a peppery finish but to me there's a huge gap where the fruit should be. Read More

  • Hooker Old Boys Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

    Snoothrank:

Tootsie roll aromas and a mellow palate of blackberries, ripe cherries and tight acidity. At the price point I might look elsewhere, but it's not a bad wine, the high point being the finish. Read More

  • Hooker Old Boys Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

    Snoothrank:

The nose is somewhat mild, but has very pleasing notes of plum, kind of powdery, with cardamom. Dark fruits and roast pork on the mouth. Pretty well balanced, I like the notes of butteriness. Expecting it to be bolder, but it stays kind of quiet. Read More
