Nestled at the foot of Wintergreen Resort and atop the rolling hills of the Rockfish Valley, sits Hill Top Berry Farm & Winery. Originally opened as a pick-your-own blackberry farm, the family owned and operated business expanded into a winery in the late 1990's. Founders, Marlyn and Sue Allen, were at the forefront of what is now a budding industry by being one of the first wineries in Virginia to offer specialty wines. The operation has grown to include not only a new line of historical wines, but a new generation of owners. Three sisters, Kimberly Allen Pugh, Crystal Allen Brennan, and Marlo Gayle Allen, are now the proud owners of this ever-growing family operation. Offering both indoor and outdoor meeting facilities, Hill Top promises to never outgrow its family roots and southern hospitality. – Description from JasminaDragoljevic

  • I was fortunate to be able to attends last weeks ZAP Experience. As you might know this year’s event differed from those in years past as the event was broken down into additional components.  The trade and media portion of the Experience is now a discreet tasting, and the grand tasting has been broken out into sections, that took place on the g... • We're heading back to (my favorite wine region) Russian River the first weekend in October and are looking for advice on what to do and what to expect.  We've been to RRV several times but only during the off season.  Is there anything special we should do at this time of year, and conversely, is there anything we should avoid? • Out of the way, down a drive lost in Spring Mountain, one comes upon Smith-Madrone, a winery that speaks as much of the past as the present. There’s a bit of a Twilight Zone feel here; it’s in a GPS black hole, and somehow it recalls the innocence of a simpler time. (“Willoughby, the next stop is Willoughby.”) Stuart and Charlie Smith play their... Read More

  • I last left you walking out of the Albergo Duomo in Montepulciano. I had just taken a left on the Via Ricci, and was making my way to the Piazza Duomo, where one can find the cellars of Contucci. That’s right, conveniently located, for visitors at least, and smack in the middle of town, one can find the historic cellars of the family Contucci. ... Read More

  • Hill Top Berry Farm & Winery Red Blend Monticello Three Sisters Elderberry NV

    Snoothrank:

This wine is a rich deep color. Unlike the meads of Hill Top Berry, the flavors aren't too intense. It has that deep cherry and exotic berry taste that really tickles the tongue. I would not recommend any Hill Top Berry wines paired with a meal, though I have heard that they can be brilliant in cooking. We had this after dinner with a few sp... Read More
