Highlands Winery began in 2001 with the vision of using ultra premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel to produce world class wines in the Bordeaux tradition. Using French oak barrels and hands-on craftsmanship these wines were produced in small lots with careful attention to detail. The results are wines which drink very well upon release and continue to improve for many years. Highland’s founders were pioneers in the Napa Valley wine business. This experience stands out in the structure and complexity of Highland’s wines. – Description from Nerevar

  • Okay, getting back to the topic at hand, in effect the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is the other side of those mountains.  Arroyo Seco is basically due east of Big Sur.  And there's San Antonio Valley a little further south.  (Pierce Family, whom I have touted on the "Completely Different" thread, are down there.)  Here's a nice map: http://wine.ap... • I once, a few years back, almost pulled the trigger on a real estate purchase in the hills back behind the Big Sur coastline. Was reminiscing on that today, and wondered why I never hear about wine from that area. Is it because I'm so far away and out of touch and there actually are barrels and barrels of wine being made there, or because the cu... Read More

  • California, the land of sunshine, free spirits, and big wines. Right? Yes, of course, all that is true but today we are seeing that free spirited attitude change the paradigm for wine production.
