Sogrape was founded in 1942 by Fernando van Zeller Guedes a driven and determined entrepreneur. Today, the company is run by the third generation of the founding family and owns about 1200 hectares of vineyards in the main Portuguese wine-growing regions and in Argentina, Chile and New Zealand. Sogrape's story is all about the achievements of the men who created the Company, introduced it to the wine world, expanded it and who cohesively ensure its continued success. – Description from markomkc

  • While there are some tastings I do not look forward to each year, there are others that I can’t wait for. For the most part that means things like Barolo and northern Rhone Syrah, but it also includes the greatest set of value wines I get to sample each year; inexpensive Portuguese red wines! Now, admittedly that’s a pretty broad category of vino... I do get that plum flavor and various berries. Some mint or cinnamon thing on the back of the tongue. Very mild acids and very mild tannins. A pretty good wine... Read More

  • I was recently transferred to an office in Fremont, CA, which is like a prison sentence in my work, so how do I entertain myself?  I scout out new wine stores.  And, thanks to Yelp, I found this really cool market that specializes in all things Portugese. It's no secret I love Spanish wine, and my experience with Portugese so far has been that i... Read More
